Sterilizing & Sifting

African Dawn Rooibos tea is sterilized before packaging, a precaution aimed at eliminating unwanted bacteria and fungi. Warm, dry air is blown over the tea. The process is performed in an entirely moisture free environment, ensuring that the tea does not lose any of its flavour. The tea is then sifted to rid it of coarser particles and tea dust.

The final product is an optimum mixture of 2-4 mm tea leaves.

Testing

All African Dawn Rooibos tea is tested by the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB). This ensures consumers’ peace of mind that the tea is free of chemical residues and that stringent health control has been applied throughout the whole process. Every exported kilogram of African Dawn Rooibos tea is accompanied by the mandatory health, phytosanitary, export and origin certificates.

Quality Control

The company is wholeheartedly committed to and prides itself on guaranteeing outstanding quality as a hallmark of the products that bear its name.

Quality control and strictly environmentally friendly practices weave throughout the entire production process, starting in the tea plantations themselves. Overall hygiene during processing and packaging is seen as of critical importance.

As an estate, the company outranks its competitors in the field of quality management during production.

In recognition of this achievement, the company received the Total Quality Management (TQM) Model in January 2001 in Geneva, Switzerland - a first for a rooibos tea company in South Africa.

This award serves to emphasise The Big Five Rooibos Company’s undisputed position as the current market leader in the production of quality rooibos tea worldwide.
