In 1968 Annique Theron, a young mother struggling with a colic baby, added Rooibos to her baby's milk out of pure frustration. To her astonishment, the baby calmed down. She shared her experience with fellow mothers and soon afterwards Rooibos was freely used as a replacement for babies struggling with colic, insomnia and stomach cramps.
Annique Theron then became a pioneer for the Rooibos industry, and today a significant number of baby products containing Rooibos can be found.
Rooibos has natural soothing powers that may lead to better digestion and deep sleep. Due to its low tannin content, it does not reduce your baby's iron reserves, nor does it affect the absorption of protein. Babies will also benefit from the minerals found in Rooibos. Zinc and magnesium enhance a healthy skin and a well-developed nervous system. Calcium helps to strengthen the baby's teeth and bones.
As Rooibos contains no caffeine, together with its nutritional values, it is a safe alternative to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. It is also a soothing refreshment that will calm a new mother's nerves.
